About

Our allotments have been at Lawrence Street since 1928 and we have  become self managed, being run by a committee appointed each year at an AGM.   We are a community interested in growing fruit and vegetables on a strictly non commercial basis.

To enhance our plots’ soil we have deliveries of wood chippings and also horse manure to which members may help themselves for free. The wood chippings may be used around bushes etc but the horse manure is best stacked for at least 6 months (to rot down a bit) before applying it.

In addition to maintaining your own plot members are expected to keep the grass paths around their patch mown and to help with this the site has petrol mowers that can be borrowed, plus some wheelbarrows.   Most members do find it easier to have their own tools.    The site has a compost toilet, with disabled access, plus room for approximately 8 cars to park.
